For this purpose, this paper examines the definitions of dependency, general perspectives, classifications, and the criticism of dependency theory. The main weakness of dependency theory lies in explaining the origin of underdevelopment. In other words, the relation between underdevelopment and dependency is explained in a circular manner. As a result of the division of intellectual labour that followed the Methodenstreit in the social sciences, sociology neglected the analysis of the social production of money and has concentrated instead on its social effects or social meanings. Moreover, sociology tacitly endorsed the flawed conception of money as a 'veil' masking either the 'real' economy or the 'social relations' of production.
